Pedro Neto fired Chelsea ahead early in their FIFA Club World Cup clash against Flamengo in Philadelphia, slotting calmly past Rossi for his second tournament goal. Flamengo responded with pressure, nearly equalizing when Levi Colwill cleared Gerson’s header off the line before halftime.
The Brazilian side stormed back after the break. Gonzalo Plata went close twice, then set up Bruno Henrique for a tap-in equalizer. Moments later, Danilo headed in from a corner to give Flamengo the lead.
Chelsea’s woes deepened when substitute Nicolas Jackson was sent off for a reckless challenge on Ayrton Lucas just minutes after coming on. Wallace Yan sealed Flamengo’s 3-1 win with a late third, extending their winning streak to six and halting Chelsea’s run of four victories.
Elsewhere, Benfica thrashed Auckland FC 6-0 in a weather-delayed match, boosting their Group C standing.
