Doncaster Rovers have clinched promotion to League One, marking a triumphant return after three seasons in League Two. Central to this achievement is Nigerian-born defender, Joseph Olowu, whose stellar performances throughout the season earned him the club’s Player of the Year award.
Olowu, a product of Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, joined Doncaster Rovers in 2021. Despite a challenging start that saw the team relegated in his first season, Olowu remained a consistent presence in defense.
This season, he made 39 appearances, contributing three goals and two assists before a season-ending injury in March. His leadership and defensive prowess were instrumental in Rovers’ successful campaign.

The promotion was sealed with a 2–1 victory over Bradford City, ensuring a top-two finish and automatic elevation to League One.
The team now has the opportunity to clinch the League Two title with a win against Notts County on May 3rd.
Despite his injury, Olowu joined his teammates in celebrating the promotion, while holding a Nigerian flag.
