Julian Alvarez bagged a hat trick as Atletico Madrid came from behind to secure a win over Rayo Vallecano in a Liga fixture on Wednesday night.
The Wanda Metropolitano Stadium went wild as the Argentine striker scored the equalizer and the winner in the space of eight minutes to seal the comeback win.
Atletico Madrid took the lead early in the game from Julian Alvarez’s sublime finish off a brilliant cross.
The visitors pegged back the host just before the break from Pep Chavarria’s shot from distance – an early goal of the season contender as the first half ended one-all.

Rayo Vallecano didn’t show any sign of weakness with the start of the second half as they almost took the lead. However, Oblak made himself big to deny Izi Palazon.
Both teams had attempts towards goal as the tie drags towards the final 10 minutes but it was the visitors that seized the opportunity to go ahead for the first time in the match.
Jan Oblak painfully watched helplessly as Alvaro Garcia placed the ball past him to put Rayo Vallecano ahead in the 79th minute.
However, the lead only lasted less than 60 seconds as Julian Alvarez restored parity to give the Diego Simeone’s men hope.
Eight minutes later, the World Cup winner scored a goal worthy of his hat trick performance to give Atletico Madrid the win.
In other results on the night, Getafe and Alaves settled for a one-all draw at the Coliseum while Real Sociedad secured a narrow win over Mallorca at the Reale Arena ending a run of three consecutive losses.
