Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma is on the verge of joining newly promoted Serie A side Frosinone after the Italian club reached an agreement to sign the Nigerian centre-back.
According to renowned Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, negotiations between both parties have been completed, with official confirmation and contract details expected in the coming days.
The 31-year-old will leave German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim after a lengthy association spanning more than a decade. Akpoguma joined Hoffenheim from Karlsruher SC in 2013 and later gained experience through loan spells at Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96 before becoming a regular member of Hoffenheim’s first team.
His opportunities became limited in recent seasons, however, with the defender falling down the pecking order under manager Christian Ilzer. Akpoguma made only nine appearances during the 2025/26 campaign before departing the club as a free agent following the expiration of his contract.
A move to Italy offers the Nigerian international a fresh challenge and the opportunity to secure regular playing time as Frosinone prepare for life in Serie A.
Akpoguma, who represented Germany at various youth levels before switching allegiance to Nigeria, has earned eight caps for the Super Eagles since making his senior debut in 2020. His most recent appearance for Nigeria came in June 2023.
The experienced defender will be hoping to revive his career in Italy and play a key role in Frosinone’s bid to retain their top-flight status during the upcoming Serie A season.
