Manchester City announced the club will erect Kevin DeBruyne’s statue in front of the Etihad Stadium as the Belgian midfielder leaves the club at the end of the season.
Pep Guardiola, fans in the stadium, and other admirers were encapsulated in raw emotions as Kevin DeBruyne played his last game at the Etihad on Tuesday night.
De Bruyne started as an attacking midfielder in the starting XI as Manchester City dispatched Bournemouth 3-1 at the Etihad.
The 33-year-old midfielder played until the 69th minute, received a standing ovation from the over 50,000 fans who watched their captain walk down the lush green Etihad Stadium pitch for the last time.
DeBruyne played an immense role in Manchester City’s domination in England as he led the club to 14 major trophies excluding the FA Community Shield in 10 years at the club.
Kevin DeBruyne leaves Manchester City unarguably the most important player in its most recent history and one of the greatest midfielders of the Premier League era having scored 108 goals and assisted 177 in 421 matches for Manchester City.
