La Liga continues to serve up some of the most thrilling and entertaining games this season, and Sunday’s action was no exception.
The opening game of the day between Leganes and Getafe was far from entertaining, but instead, Leganes put up a defensive masterclass and were rewarded when Diego García struck an unstoppable stoppage-time winner to claim all three points at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
The big game of the day saw Barcelona defeat 10-man Real Sociedad 4-0 to climb back to the top of the La Liga standings.
Real Sociedad’s chances of getting a result were dealt a crushing blow early on when Aritz Elustondo was given his marching orders in the 17th minute. The defender was shown a straight red card for bringing down Dani Olmo, who was through on goal.
Barcelona wasted no time in taking advantage of the numerical advantage. Just eight minutes later, Lamine Yamal slipped away from his marker and combined with Olmo to set up Martin for a simple finish at the back post.
The hosts were on a roll, and Olmo’s strike from the edge of the box deflected in off Casado just four minutes later.
Sociedad’s woes continued as Araújo rose highest to head home an inswinging corner from Raphinha, barely a minute after Pedri had rattled the woodwork with a long-range effort.
The rout was completed on the hour mark, courtesy of Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker stuck out a foot to divert Araújo’s shot past the helpless Alex Remiro in goal, sealing a resounding victory for Barcelona.
