Lazio secured a 2-1 victory over Cagliari at the Unipol Domus Stadium on Monday night propelling them into fourth place in Serie A.
Lazio’s Boulaye Dia appeared to have broken the deadlock when a clearance from Cagliari’s Yerry Mina deflected off him into the net. However, the goal was disallowed due to a handball infringement.
The breakthrough arrived in the 41st minute. Gustav Isaksen and Elseid Hysaj combined effectively on the right flank, with Hysaj delivering a precise cross into the penalty area.
Dia was unable to make contact, but Mattia Zaccagni was positioned perfectly to slot the ball past goalkeeper Elia Caprile, giving Lazio a 1-0 lead.
Cagliari responded with renewed vigor in the second half. Their efforts were rewarded in the 55th minute when Nicolas Viola’s corner found Roberto Piccoli at the back post. Piccoli’s towering header beat Ivan Provedel, leveling the score at 1-1.
Lazio regained their advantage in the 64th minute. Boulaye Dia headed the ball back from the byline towards Zaccagni, who couldn’t connect cleanly but managed to draw Caprile off his line. This allowed Valentín ‘Taty’ Castellanos to capitalize, placing the ball into the empty net and restoring Lazio’s lead at 2-1.
In the final stages, both teams created chances, with Lazio coming close to extending their lead. However, Caprile’s commendable saves denied further goals. Ultimately, Lazio maintained their advantage, securing a vital away win that bolstered their position in the league standings.
