Leicester woes compounded as they fall to Newcastle

Newcastle United delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday, propelling them to fifth place in the Premier League and intensifying their pursuit of a Champions League spot.

Jacob Murphy was instrumental in the win, netting two goals within the first 34 minutes. His first came from a precise cross by Tino Livramento, and he swiftly doubled the lead after capitalizing on a rebound from Fabian Schär’s long-range effort that struck the crossbar.

Former Leicester winger Harvey Barnes added a third goal before halftime, solidifying Newcastle’s dominance.

This defeat marked a historic low for Leicester City, as they became the first team in English Football League history to lose eight consecutive home league matches without scoring.

The Foxes have now suffered 22 losses in 31 league matches, placing them 19th in the table and facing a significant threat of relegation.

Newcastle’s midfield trio—Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, and Bruno Guimarães—dominated proceedings, overwhelming Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi and Boubakary Soumaré. The Magpies’ assertive play left Leicester fans disheartened, with many departing the stadium before halftime.

Despite some second-half efforts from Leicester, they failed to capitalize on Newcastle’s relaxed approach. The introduction of 15-year-old debutant Jeremy Monga provided a rare bright spot for the Foxes.
