Chelsea are on the verge of finalizing a deal to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, beating the likes of Manchester United, and Liverpool to the deal.
Following Ipswich’s relegation, Delap’s contract includes a £30m release clause, and despite interest from a host of other clubs, the 22-year-old has set his sights on joining Chelsea.
The Blues are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window as they prepare to strengthen their squad ahead of their opening match in the Club World Cup in Atlanta on June 16.
Delap perfectly matches the profile of the dynamic, goal-scoring striker Chelsea are seeking, with the overall cost of the transfer, including wages, being a significant factor in negotiations.
Chelsea’s recruitment strategy centers on securing young, high-potential players and tying them to long-term, incentivized contracts.
Delap, at just 22, brings valuable Premier League experience and has a prior connection with Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca and recruitment co-director Joe Shields, having worked with both during his time at Manchester City.
