Veteran striker Olivier Giroud marked his Ligue 1 return with a goal just 11 minutes into Lille’s 3-3 draw at Brest on Sunday.
The 38-year-old, now with Lille after Los Angeles FC, finished Felix Correia’s pass to become the club’s oldest Ligue 1 scorer. “It’s special to be back,” Giroud told DAZN, playing the full match.
Hakon Haraldsson and Ngal’ayel Mukau scored, but Kamory Doumbia’s brace and Julien Le Cardinal’s late goal shared the points.
Paris Saint-Germain, fresh off winning the UEFA Super Cup, began their title defense with a 1-0 win at Nantes, despite Ousmane Dembele being restricted to just 30 minutes off the bench.
In other matches, striker Esteban Lepaul’s early goal was enough for Angers to win 1-0 at home to newly promoted Paris FC despite having midfielder Louis Mouton sent off in the 57th minute.
Auxerre’s Lassine Sinayoko secured a 1-0 win over Lorient, while Strasbourg’s Joaquin Panichelli sank Metz 1-0.
