Liverpool added another layer of misery to Real Madrid’s misfortunes on Wednesday night as the Reds secured an impressive victory over the reigning champions.

The Reds were dominant from the first blast of the whistle to the last as they secured three points and a clean sheet over Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Thibaut Courtois denied Darwin Nunez twice in the first half to keep Los Blancos in the game as the Reds outplayed and outran the visitors.

The first half ended goalless with Liverpool having 3 shots on target while Real Madrid barely survived the onslaught.

Real Madrid had the opportunity to restore parity via the penalty spot after Andy Robertson fouled Lucas Vasquez in the box.

Unfortunately, Kylian Mbappe’s strike from the 12 yards was saved by Caoimhim Kelleher as Madrid’s struggles comtinued in the game.

Mo Salah wastes the opportunity to doubel Liverpool’s lead at the other end moments later as he also missed from the spot.

However, substitute Cody put the match beyond the champions as he planted a fine header into the net from Andy Robertson’s cross.

The defeat put Real Madrid’s chances of qualifying for the next round at risk as they sink to the last spot of the playoffs.

The victory over Real Madrid is Liverpool’s first in the Chamions League since 2009.

The Reds sit comfortably at the top of the log with 15 points after 5 games and are in pole position to secure automatic qualification for the second round.
