Liverpool delivered a commanding performance with a 5-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday evening, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points.
Luis Díaz opened the scoring in the 30th minute, capitalizing on a deflection to find the bottom corner. Ten minutes later, Cody Gakpo doubled the lead, finishing from close range after a clever assist from Mohamed Salah.
Salah himself added a third just before halftime, bringing his season tally to 20 goals in all competitions.
In the second half, Trent Alexander-Arnold made it 4-0 in the 54th minute with a deflected shot from the edge of the area. Substitute Diogo Jota completed the rout in the 84th minute, curling into the far corner following a dazzling run by Salah.
This victory solidified Liverpool’s position at the summit of the Premier League with 45 points from 18 games.
West Ham, meanwhile, struggled to contain Liverpool’s relentless attack, leading to increased pressure on manager Julen Lopetegui as the Hammers remain in 13th place.
Mohamed Salah’s performance was particularly noteworthy, as he became the first player in Premier League history to both score and assist in eight matches within a single season, surpassing previous record-holders such as Harry Kane and Thierry Henry.
Liverpool’s next fixture sees them host Aston Villa while West Ham travel to face Everton.
