Liverpool outclass Osimhen’s Galatasaray, Lookman grab assist as Tottenham, Atalanta crash out

Liverpool ended Galatasaray’s dream of qualifying for their first Champions League quarter-finals appearance in more than a decade with a resounding victory at Anfield.

The Turkish champions came into the tie with a 1-0 first-leg advantage but were faced with relentless waves of attack from the host.

Galatasaray looked jaded in attack and Osimhen’s early injury handicapped the visitors in attack as Liverpool sealed a convincing win to progress to the quarter-finals.

Dominik Szobozlai continued his impressive form all season long as he put Liverpool ahead just before the half-hour mark with a left-footed one-time shot off a corner kick.

Mohammed Salah missed the chance to double the lead for the Reds after missing a penalty in added time of the first half.

However, the “Egyptian King” compensated for his miss with a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win over Galatasaray to progress 4-1 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman grabbed an assist as Atletico Madrid lost to Tottenham but qualified 7-5 on aggregate.

The Super Eagles striker started in attack alongside Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann as Atleti entered the match leading 5-2 from the first leg.

Tottenham on the back of their morale-awakening 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Sunday scored first to attempt a remontada.

French striker Kolo Munai scored from a header off a cross from Mathyrs Tel in the 30th minute of the tie.

Lookman had earlier scored in the opening minute but his goal was ruled offside.

The Super Eagles winger went on to find Julian Alvarez with a great pass in the box as the Argentine World Cup winner placed the ball into the back of the net.

Atletico Madrid’s goalkeeper, Juan Musso kept the visitors in the tie with several saves in the first half.

Xavi Simmons bagged a brace for Tottenham Hotspur in the entertaining tie at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as it ended 3-2 on the night.

Other results:

Bayern Munich 4-1 Atalanta (10-2)
Barcelona 7-2 Newcastle United (8-3).
