Manchester City has officially signed 20-year-old Uzbek central defender Abdukodir Khusanov from French Ligue 1 club Lens.
The transfer fee is reported to be €40 million (£33.8 million), and Khusanov has agreed to a four-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2029.
Khusanov, who has featured in 13 of Lens’ 16 league games this season, is noted for his intelligence, strength, aggression, and speed. He becomes the first player from Uzbekistan to join the Premier League.
Expressing his excitement, Khusanov stated, “Joining Manchester City is a dream come true. I look forward to developing under Pep Guardiola and contributing to the team’s success.”
Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added, “Abdukodir is a talented defender with great potential. His attributes will be a valuable addition to our squad.”
Khusanov will wear the number 45 shirt at Manchester City, a number he previously wore during his time at Energetik-BGU Minsk.
