Manchester City edge Wydad in World Club Cup Group G opener

Manchester City started their FIFA World Cup campaign on a winning note with a comfortable wim over Wydad Casablanca.

The 2023 Champions League winners picked maximum points with a comfortable 2-0 over the Moroccan club.

Phil Foden took advantage of a rebound to put Pep Guardiola’s men ahead less than two minutes into the tie at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

The English forward buried thw ball into the left corner of goal after Wydad Casablanca parried the ball towards him on the box.

Foden came close to getting on the score sheet again on the 38th minute but El Mehdi Benabid pulled off a brilliant save to deny him.

City dominated possession as expected and doubled their lead just before the first half break from a corner kick.

Jeremy Doku got to the far end of the post to tap the ball from the corner kick into the back of the net.

Manchester City held on to their lead in the second half with little goal mouth action as Wydad continued to chase the game.

Rico Lewis’ red card after a rash tackle on a Wydad player was the major highlight of the second half match ended in a comfortable win for the Cityzens.
