Morocco remains committed to hosting the WAFCON 2026, Dismisses withdrawal claims

Morocco has strongly debunked the information that they will be pulling out from hosting the WAFCON 2026 while narrating that the nation is preparing ahead of the tournament kickoff.

The Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is scheduled to kickoff on the 17th of March 2026, but earlier reports have suggested that Morocco is planning on abandoning the tournament as host just a few days to the tournament proper.

This speculative report gained momentum when the South African Deputy Minister for Sports, Arts and Culture, Peace Mabe in  an interview acknowledged that Morocco has pulled out as host, and South Africa will be stepping in as the new tournament hosts.

Meanwhile, despite a counter press statement from the South African Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie that South Africa was in no way eyeing the hosting right for the WAFCON tournament, the speculation was still believed by many as true.

And in recent unfoldings, a report from Sporty TV explained that a Moroccan top  source has dismissed the earlier claims that Morocco is planning to abandon the tournament as hosts, and also added that the nation is committed and preparing ahead of the tournament which starts in March.

“Morocco will host WAFCON 2026 as planned, and has no desire to withdraw despite recent rumors” the report read.

Similarly, according to a report from Sportsvillage, there has been no official communication from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) indicating any change of host, and all organisational plans are proceeding as planned.

With just few days left to the kickoff of the biggest women’s football tournament in Africa, Morocco has reassured their commitment in hosting the WAFCON and once again welcoming the entire Africa to Morocco.
