Morocco has unveiled plans for the Grand Stade Hassan II in Casablanca, Morocco, which is projected to be the world’s largest football stadium, with a 115,000 seat capacity.

This is in preparation of the 2030 World Cup which is set to be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco. The stadium has been marked to host the final match of the tournament.

The stadium has been designed by Paris-based architects Oualalou + Choi and global sports design leaders, Populous.

The design, according to Tarik Oualalou, design principal and founding partner at Oualalou + Choi, “is deeply rooted in Moroccan culture, with its traditions and contemporary expressions,” he wrote in a press release. “It is rooted in ancient and primordial figures: the Moussem, the tent, and the garden, as well as the topography and landscapes of Morocco.”

Preparations for groundworks at the site outside Casablanca have begun, according to Oualolou + Choi and Populous. With an estimated cost of $490 million, construction is expected to be completed by 2028.
