Nairobi United stun Etoile as Wydad, Otoho and Singida secure key first-leg results

The CAF Confederation Cup delivered surprises and decisive away results on Sunday, with Nairobi United grabbing the headlines and Wydad Casablanca edging Asante Kotoko.

 

Nairobi United 2–0 Etoile du Sahel

Kenyan newcomers Nairobi United stunned former champions Etoile du Sahel with a 2–0 win at Nyayo Stadium. Ovella Ochieng struck in the 37th minute after a defensive lapse, and John Otieno curled in a second early in the second half. The Tunisians now face a difficult second leg at home.

Ferroviário Maputo 0–1 Otoho d’Oyo

Otoho d’Oyo secured a crucial away win in Mozambique, beating Ferroviário Maputo 1–0. The Congolese side held firm defensively and snatched the winner in the 80th minute to take control of the tie ahead of the return leg in Brazzaville.

Flambeau du Centre 1–1 Singida Black Stars

Singida Black Stars earned a valuable result in Burundi, drawing 1–1 with Flambeau du Centre. The visitors went ahead on the hour mark, but the hosts equalised almost immediately. The Tanzanian side take an away goal into the second leg.

 

Asante Kotoko 0–1 Wydad Casablanca

In Accra, Asante Kotoko fell 1–0 to Wydad Casablanca. The Moroccan side dominated long spells and scored just after halftime, putting themselves in a strong position before hosting the return fixture.
