President of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) Ibrahim Musa Gusau has reacted to talks on the contract extension of Super Eagles manager, Eric Chelle.
Eric Chelle led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations claiming Nigeria’s ninth bronze medal.
There have been talks of his contract extension as manager of the Super Eagles en route to the third-place match against Egypt in the media.
Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi openly told the NFF to keep Eric Chelle as coach of the team for the sake of continuity.
Speaking in a chat with British-Nigerian journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana, NFF president said there are no talks of extending Eric Chelle’s contract.
The president added that contract talks will hold six months to the expiration of his current deal which expires next year.
“There will be no contract extension discussion with Eric Chelle. We signed a two-year deal with him in January 2025. He is only halfway through his contract. In the last six months of his current deal, we can start to look at things.”
Eric Chelle took the Super Eagles job in January 2025 and was saddled with the responsibility of salvaging the team’s woeful start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Unfortunately, despite securing a playoffs spot, the Super Eagles missed out on qualifying after losing on penalties to Congo DR in November.
