NFF President confirms resignation, Advises Executive Committee to do same

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau on Thursday officially announced his resignation from office and advised members of the Executive Committee to do the same.

Speaking at a press conference at the NFF headquarters in Abuja, Gusau said: “I can confirm to you that I have decided to resign from my position as president of the NFF and I have also advised the members of the executive committee to resign as well.”

The NFF later confirmed that Gusau, the Executive Committee and General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi had all stepped down from their positions.

The resignations come amid mounting pressure on the federation following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons’ failure to secure a place at the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

The leadership had also faced scrutiny over the handling of a ₦17 billion Federal Government intervention fund and a fact-finding committee report on the performance of the national teams.

Gusau’s tenure, which began in September 2022, ends weeks before the NFF elective congress scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The NFF Congress is expected to put in place interim arrangements pending the elections, with relevant authorities including the Federal Government and FIFA to be formally notified.
