The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the country’s recent poor performances in international competitions, following the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The federation said the committee was established to examine the circumstances surrounding Nigeria’s disappointing run, with particular attention on the Super Falcons’ failure to secure qualification for the next Women’s World Cup.
“The Nigeria Football Federation has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the country’s poor run in international competitions, with particular focus on the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup,” the NFF said.
The decision comes after the Super Falcons’ campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations ended with Nigeria failing to secure a place in the qualification pathway for the 2027 World Cup.
Nigeria had qualified for every edition of the Women’s World Cup since the inaugural tournament in 1991, making the failure to reach the 2027 edition a historic setback for the nine-time African champions.
The committee is expected to examine the factors behind the recent setbacks and provide findings that could guide the federation on measures to improve the performance of the country’s national teams.
The NFF’s move also comes amid renewed questions over the preparation, administration and management of the Super Falcons following their disappointing campaign.
The outcome of the fact-finding exercise is expected to determine what steps the federation will take to address the issues identified and prevent a repeat of the failure in future international competitions.
