Nigerian players delivered a series of notable performances across Europe over the weekend, with Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu, Tolu Arokodare and Rasheedat Ajibade among those who found the net for their respective clubs.
Osimhen opened the scoring for Galatasaray in their 3-2 away victory over İstanbul Başakşehir, registering his sixth goal of the season before being substituted in the first half with an injury.
Onuachu scored twice in Trabzonspor’s emphatic 5-0 win over Gençlerbirliği, ending his league scoring drought with goals in the fifth and 23rd minutes. He was later substituted before half-time after picking up an injury.
Arokodare also continued his impressive start at Ajax, scoring in their 3-1 home defeat to PSV Eindhoven. The goal was his fifth of the season and extended his scoring run to four consecutive matches.
In France, Super Falcons captain Ajibade scored in Paris Saint-Germain Féminine’s league victory over Lens, while Jennifer Echegini provided the assist for the opening goal.
Elsewhere, Tosin Kehinde scored twice and provided an assist for Bandırmaspor, while Emmanuel Ayaosi also found the net for Slavia Praha. Samuel Chukwueze came off the bench to provide an assist for AC Milan in their draw against Juventus.
The weekend’s performances came as Nigeria prepare for the September international window, although injuries to Osimhen and Onuachu have raised concerns over their availability for the Super Eagles.
