Nketiah’s late goal sink Liverpool as Brighton shine bright over 10-man Chelsea

Crystal Palace continued their recent form of dominance on Liverpool as the Eagles secured a late victory over the reigning Premier League champions.

Oliver Glasner’s side ended Liverpool’s perfect start to the season at Selhurst Park courtesy of Eddie Nketiah’s goal in added time.

Senegalese forward Ismaila Sarr put the host ahead in the ninth minute of action as he reacted fastest to a rebound.

The first half saw end-to-end action from both sides as Liverpool fought to get back into the game while Palace sought to increase their lead.

Dean Henderson and Allison Becker has a busy first 45 minutes in between the sticks as they made a couple of saves to keep the scoreline the same.

Crystal Palace’s resolute defense kept Liverpool’s wave of attacks at bay until the 87th minute when Federico Chielsa breached the defense of the of the host.

The Italian winger latched on to a rebound to restore parity with less than three minutes to the end of the regulation time.

With the keenly contested tie on the edge, substitute Eddie Nketiah snatched the winner in the seventh minute of added time.

The former Arsenal striker pounced on a header pass from Marc Guehi off a long throw to give the Eagles a late win over Arne Slot’s men.

Nketiah’s goal came under the VAR scrutiny in a late twist but the goal stood after review as Selhurst Park erupted in joy.

In other results, Chelsea suffered consecutive losses in almost similar fashion as last week as the Blues fell to a 3-1 loss to Brighton Hove and Albion at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool

Trevor Chalobah saw red just like Robert Sanchez last week in the loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Despite taking the lead through Enzo Fernandez’s header in the 24th minute, the Blues numerical disadvantage saw them relinquish their lead in the second half.

Former Manchester United’s striker Danny Welbeck scored twice as the Seagulls left Stamford Bridge with maximum points.

Meanwhile, a brace of own-goals from French defender Maxime Eteve, Erling Haaland’s brace and a goal form Matheus Nunes helped Manchester City brush Burnley aside at the Etihad.
