The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) resumed its 2024/2025 season with matchday 20 fixtures on Saturday. The day featured a mix of surprising upsets and high-scoring encounters.
Reigning champions Rangers International suffered a surprising home defeat in Enugu. Tornadoes took an early lead through Sarki, but Rangers equalized shortly after via Collins Ugwueze. Okechukwu’s second-half strike secured the win for the visitors. Rangers had a chance to salvage a point late in the game, but Chiedozie Okorie missed a penalty in the 90th minute.
In a thrilling encounter in Akure, Sunshine Stars raced to a 3-0 lead within the first 35 minutes. Ikorodu City mounted a spirited comeback, with Adelani scoring twice. Danlami’s second goal provided a cushion, and despite a late goal from Solomon, Sunshine Stars held on for the win.
Nasarawa United secured a vital home victory, with Qamar Adegoke’s first-half goal proving decisive. Despite the win, Nasarawa remains at the bottom of the league table but has closed the gap in their fight against relegation.
An early strike from Sunday Megwo in the 5th minute was enough to secure all three points for Abia Warriors against Bayelsa United. The home side managed to maintain their lead throughout the match, despite Bayelsa’s efforts to find an equalizer.
