The Super Eagles of Nigeria will not be participating at the 2026 World Cup but one of its finest ex-players, Osaze Odemwingie has a record which is set to be broken.
Osaze Odemwingie is of Nigerian descent but was born in Tashkent in present day Uzbekistan and represented the country at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Odemwingie scored Nigeria’s sole goal in the victory over Bosnia in a group stage match at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The former Super Eagles forward remains the only player born in Uzbekistan to score at the FIFA World Cup.
However, his record is on the verge of being equalled with Uzbekistan making their debut at the World Cup this summer.
Uzbekistan finished second behind Iran in Group A of the Asia qualification series with 21 points.
Uzbekistan will play Colombia in their opening Group K match in Mexico City on June 18.
