Asisat Oshoala’s absence from the Super Falcons squad for the international friendly match against France caused a lot of reactions from fans online.
While some believe that her absence is because her relevance to the national team is slowly diminishing, others the six-time African footballer of the year is no longer at her best.
However, interim coach of the Super Falcons Justin Madugu has cleared the air on the absence of the Bay FC striker from the team.
Madugu explains that Oshoala is unable to join her teammates due to some documentation issues in the United States.
“Unfortunately, her (USA) visa and work permit expired and she is in the process of renewing them. Until these are finalized, she is unable to join us for the friendly in France,”
“Asisat Oshoala remains an integral part of the Super Falcons and an invaluable player in our squad,” Madugu added. “Her absence is purely due to logistical reasons and not a reflection of her talent or importance to the team.”
“Asisat’s contribution to the team is immense and we look forward to welcoming her back once her situation is sorted,” Madugu added.
Asisat Oshoala led Bay FC to the National Women’s Soccer League playoffs where they lost to Washington Spirits. The 30-year-old striker scored in the 2-1 loss.
The Super Falcons will take on the French national team this Saturday in Angers, France as they build up to the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The nine-time champions will face Tunisia, Algeria and Botswana in Group B.
