Panathinaikos coach Christos Kontis has expressed worry over the Cyriel Dessers’ fitness ahead of their Europa League clash against Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday.
Kontis revealed that the Super Eagles striker is struggling to gain full fitness after the injury he sustained against Young Boys in their Europa League opener in Switzerland.
Cyriel Dessers was unavailable for selection in Panathiniakos’ 2-1 win away at Panetikolis over the weekend.
While speaking at the pre-match press conference on Wednesday, Christos Kontis said: “I hope he can train today. He had an injury problem from Switzerland that is bothering him. I want to believe that everything will go well.”
Dessers didn’t take part of Tuesday’s training session with the rest of his teammates ahead of the Go Ahead Eagles.
Instead, the former Glasgow Rangers’ striker trained individually as Panathiniakos’ team doctors continue to access his situation.
Cyriel Dessers’ situation also posses worry for Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle who is expected to release his squad for this month’s crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic.
Dessers made his competitive debut for the Super Eagles in September’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Blomfontein.
