Postecoglou’s wait for Forest win continues while Spurs strike late to deny Wolves

Nottingham Forest’s wait for a first win under Ange Postecoglou stretched to five matches after a 1–0 defeat to Sunderland at the City Ground.

The visitors struck in the 37th minute when Omar Alderete headed in from a Granit Xhaka free-kick, awarded after a contentious foul on Trai Hume.

Forest struggled for fluency in attack and failed to register a shot on target before the break. Postecoglou introduced Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the second half, which gave his side more urgency, but Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs pulled off several key saves to deny the hosts.

Chris Wood went closest with a late header that flew wide, leaving Forest frustrated as boos echoed around the ground. Sunderland, meanwhile, celebrated their first away win of the season, climbing into the top four.

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, João Palhinha’s stoppage-time strike salvaged a 1–1 draw for Spurs against Wolves. The visitors had taken the lead early in the second half when Santiago Bueno reacted quickest to a rebound from a corner.

Spurs, who had dominated possession, found Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone in fine form, with Mohammed Kudus denied by the woodwork in the opening period. Ange Postecoglou’s side looked destined for defeat until deep into injury time, when Palhinha pounced on a loose ball after Matt Doherty’s effort struck the bar.

The draw was a relief for Spurs but a bitter blow for Wolves, who remain without a win this season.
