Burnley responded late through Lesley Ugochukwu’s header, but Villa held firm.
At Goodison Park, Everton stunned Crystal Palace with a 93rd-minute winner from Jack Grealish, ending Palace’s remarkable 19-game unbeaten streak.
Meanwhile, Newcastle heaped pressure on Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou with a comfortable 2-0 win at St James’ Park. Bruno Guimarães opened the scoring, and Nick Woltemade added a penalty to seal the win.
Finally, Wolves and Brighton shared the points in a 1-1 draw after a late equaliser from Van Hecke cancelled out an own goal from Verbruggen.
Meanwhile, Manchester City play Brentford in the late Sunday kick-off.
