PSG annihilate St Etienne as Monaco leapfrogs Marseille to claim second spot

Paris Saint-Germain unleashed venom on St Etienne as they continue to tighten their grip on top of the Ligue 1 table with about nine matches to the end of the season.

The defending champions came from a goal down to take the home side apart in a comprehensive victory on Saturday evening.

PSG men struggled in the early stage of the match as they conceded in the ninth minute courtesy of Belgian striker Lucas Stassin who rose highest to plant a header into the back of the net.

After a period of sustained pressure, Goncalo Ramos equalized for the visitors with a perfect strike from the penalty spot just before halftime.

PSG started the second half with great momentum as they completely decimated St Etienne right in front of their fans on the night.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG the lead five minutes into the second half as he pounced on a mistake from St Etienne’s defender and slotted the ball into the net.

Desire Doue bagged a brace, Joao Neves and substitute Ibrahim Mbaye got on the scoresheet in the 6-1 bashing.

Meanwhile, Monaco took advantage of Marseille’s 3-1 loss at Reims to go second on the log. Mika Biereth and Breel Embolo scored in the 2-1 win over Nice.

PSG lead the log with 71 points while Monaco lare in second place with a point over Marseille who have 49 points after 27 matches.
