Remo Stars secured a 2-1 victory against Sunshine Stars in a highly anticipated Southwest Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) derby at the Akure Township Stadium on Saturday evening.
The visitors took an early lead in the 9th minute through a goal by Alex Oyowah. They extended their advantage in the 28th minute when Ibrahim Abubakar found the back of the net, making it 2-0 before halftime.
Sunshine Stars responded in the second half, with Matthew Samuel scoring in the 67th minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1. Despite their efforts to find an equalizer, Remo Stars maintained their lead and secured the win.
This victory reinforces Remo Stars’ position at the top of the NPFL standings with 45 points from 22 matches while Sunshine Stars continue to face challenges in their campaign as they sit 15th with 24 points, just three points adrift of relegation places.
