Rio Ngumoha is the biggest name in the Premier League over the last 24 hours after he wrote his name in the history books.
The 16-year-old came on as a second-half substitute to grab a late winner as Liverpool beat 10-man Newcastle 3-2 at St. James’ Park on Monday night.
Ngumoha’s goal made him Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer and fourth in the history of the Premier League. He scored at 16 years and 361 days old.

1. Ngumoha is of Nigerian descent
Rio Ngumoha was born in Newham in London on 29 August 2008, to Nigerian parents. He made his debut for England under-15 and under-16 teams in 2023. In October 2024, he played for the England under-17 team and was called up for the 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
2. Chelsea Academy product
After nine years in Chelsea’s academy, Rio Ngumoha joined Liverpool in 2024. Ngumoha attracted interest from top clubs due to his high potential and standout performances, but Liverpool beat others to secure his signature. Ngumoha scored two goals and provided two assists in the preseason, which has practically earned him a place in the first team.

Rio Ngumoha made his debut in a 4–0 FA Cup victory over Accrington Stanley, and the 16-year-old became the youngest player ever to start a first-team match for the club. At just 16 years and 135 days old, he also set a new record as Liverpool’s youngest-ever FA Cup player.
3. Two-way player
Rio Ngumoha plays as a left-winger but can also play as an attacking midfielder. His performance during Liverpool’s preseason preparations impressed Arne Slot, and it will be interesting to see how the Dutch manager helps him to develop in the years ahead as he continues to gain experience in the first team.
