Salah-less Liverpool snatch late win in Milan, Barca, Tottenham secure wins as Atalanta extend Chelsea’s winless streak

The first night of matchday six of the Champions League league phase witnessed a couple of interesting matches across different match centres.

Liverpool’s win at the Giuseppe Meazza was arguably the most surprising given the form of Arne Slot’s men and Mohammed Salah’s public criticism of the club and manager.

The recurring theme was “remontada” with the likes of Atalanta, Barcelona, and Marseille involved in comeback victories.

Atalanta took on Chelsea in Bergamo in an interesting tie with Super Eagles’ AFCON-bound Ademola Lookman on display. The Italian side turned things around at home after an early setback, clinching a 2-1 victory that keeps their hopes alive.

Barcelona hosted Frankfurt and edged out a 2-1 win, battling back from behind to secure the points in a tense affair. Jules Kounde scored twice to give the Catalan giants maximum points as they returned to winning after the humiliating loss to Chelsea two weeks ago.

In the star fixture of the night, Inter Milan faced Liverpool at the San Siro, and it was the Reds who stole the show with a 1-0 away triumph, courtesy of a late Dominik Szoboszlai penalty. Heartbreaker for the Nerazzurri! It was quite a cagey game, but the Reds wouldn’t mind as they sealed maximum points on the road.

Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool’s best player so far this season by a stretch, lived up to expectations yet again.

Monaco took on Galatasaray in a gritty encounter, grinding out a 1-0 home win in what was a low-key but crucial result.

Meanwhile, PSV Eindhoven and Atlético de Madrid served up goals galore, with Atlético emerging 3-2 victors on the road in an end-to-end thriller.

Tottenham Hotspur dominated Slavia Praha 3-0 at home, putting on a clinical display in London.

Union SG and Marseille was pure drama—Marseille dug deep and snatched a 3-2 away win in a rollercoaster of a game.
