Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated the winners of the E1 Lagos Grand Prix, praising both the athletes and the event for showcasing Lagos as a hub of innovation and sustainability.
In a celebratory statement, the governor commended Team Brazil, alongside racers Timmy Hansen and Leva Millere-Hagin, for their impressive performance across a thrilling weekend of on-water competition.
“Congratulations to Team Brazil, and to Timmy Hansen and Leva Millere-Hagin, for a well-deserved victory after an exciting weekend of racing on our waters at the E1 Lagos GP,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He noted that the event was about more than sport, reflecting Lagos’ growing global reputation as a forward-thinking city.
“Beyond the competition, the E1 Lagos GP represented our city’s commitment to innovation, clean energy, and sustainable development. It was inspiring to see Lagos take its place on the global stage as a city that embraces progress and possibility.”

Sanwo-Olu added that hosting the electric powerboat championship further strengthens the state’s vision for a greener future.
“I am proud of what we achieved this weekend and even more confident about the future we are building for Lagos.”
The E1 Lagos GP marked one of the most high-profile sporting events hosted by the city this year, drawing local and international spectators. Officials say the success of the tournament could pave the way for more world-class sustainable sports initiatives in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
