Southampton’s dream of recreating their 1976 FA Cup triumph is still on after the Saints sealed a famous win over Arsenal.
Sheam Charles scored the winner five minutes from time to give Southampton a 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Saint Mary’s Stadium on Saturday night.
Arsenal came into the game on the back of a 14-game unbeaten run away from home and the Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City.
After a couple of chances at goal from the visitors, Stewart Charles gave the hosts the lead with a well-taken shot from a cross into the box.
The introduction of Viktor Gyokores and Noni Madueke changed Arsenal’s potency in the game and bagged the equaliser eight minutes after the hour mark.
Viktor Gyokores got the end of Kai Havertz’s cross and put the ball into the back of the net from close range.
With five minutes to the end of the 90, Shea Charles buried a low drive into the bottom corner after receiving a delightful pass in the box.
