Slot Hails Salah as Liverpool Prepare for Emotional Farewell Run-In

Liverpool FC manager Arne Slot has paid tribute to forward Mohamed Salah, saying the Egyptian star deserves a “big send-off” as he approaches the final weeks of his Anfield career.

Salah, who is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, limped off during last weekend’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace after picking up a minor muscle injury. The 33-year-old was visibly emotional as he left the pitch, applauding supporters while receiving a standing ovation, sparking fears he may have played his final game at Anfield.

Liverpool have since confirmed that the injury is not serious, and Slot has now indicated the forward is expected to return before the end of the campaign.

“We expect him to be back in the final part of the season, but not for Sunday,” Slot said ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United.

The Dutch manager expressed relief over the diagnosis and praised Salah’s resilience, describing him as a player who recovers quickly from setbacks.

“It’s a big relief that the injury is minor, so he can play for us again, and hopefully at the World Cup,” he said.

Slot also reserved special praise for the forward, insisting his contribution to the club deserves a fitting farewell.

“And if there is any player who deserves a big send-off, it is definitely Mo,” he added.

Salah has enjoyed a legendary spell at Liverpool since arriving in 2017, scoring 257 goals in 440 appearances and ranking third on the club’s all-time scoring list behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.

His impending departure comes as Liverpool continue their push for a top-five finish in the Premier League, which guarantees qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Slot emphasised the importance of securing European football after a mixed season, describing qualification as a crucial objective for the club.

He also provided an update on goalkeeper Alisson Becker, saying the shot-stopper is close to returning to training but will not be rushed back into action.
