Sporting Lagos football club have announced the passing away of its former goalkeeper Agbor Ekoi.
The Lagos-based club announced the death of the lanky goalkeeper on its official X page on Friday.
The statement reads:
“Everyone at Sporting Lagos is devastated at the shocking news that our former goalkeeper Agbor Ekoi has passed away. Agbor was in goal for our first ever-game and brought laughter to the dressing room every day.”
“In his memory, we’ve put together a thread of photos and videos from his time with us — a celebration of moments that made him so special to us. Rest in Peace, Agbor ❤️”
The club didn’t disclose the nature of his death but sources online report that Ekoi died in a car accident.
Agbor Ekoi joined El-Kanemi Warriors in the summer of 2024 following the relegation of Sporting Lagos from the league.
The 27-year-old was part of the Sporting Lagos squad that won the Naija Super 8 preseason tournament in 2022.
