Sporting Lagos announced they claimed the first bragging rights of the Lagos Derby of the season, thrashing Inter Lagos 3-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday.
Sodiq Ayoade set the tone early, firing Sporting Lagos ahead inside the seventh minute, before Aliyu Baba doubled the advantage. Valentine Ugwu completed the rout in the 90th minute, ending Inter Lagos’ wait for a debut goal in emphatic fashion and handing them a third straight defeat to open their maiden top-flight campaign.
Bendel Insurance came through a six-goal thriller, beating Kun Khalifat 4-2 to move up in the standings, while Kwara United returned to winning ways with a commanding 3-0 victory over Katsina United, ending their own short winless run in the process.
Barau FC continued their impressive start to the season, beating Ranchers Bees 3-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. Liman Ahmadu broke the deadlock in the 28th minute before in-form striker Zulfililu Muhammad restored parity.
However, the hosts scored twice in added time to secure maximum points over the newcomers.
In Aba, Abia Warriors and Ikorodu City shared the spoils in an entertaining four-goal thriller, with both sides scoring twice in a 2-2 draw. The result means Abia Warriors remain without a win through three matches, while Ikorodu City extend their unbeaten start to the season.
Sunday’s results leave the early NPFL standings taking further shape, with Doma United continuing to set the pace at the summit after their perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign.
