Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has completed a return to South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United, bringing an end to months of speculation surrounding his future.
The 30-year-old had been without a club since leaving Chippa United by mutual consent in February, shortly after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. His departure sparked widespread interest, with several clubs across Africa and the Middle East reportedly monitoring his situation.
South African heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were both linked with the Nigerian international, while clubs in Saudi Arabia also emerged as potential destinations. However, no move materialised.
Chippa United have now confirmed Nwabali’s return for a second spell at the Eastern Cape club.
In a statement announcing the deal, the club said:
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys.
“After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”
Nwabali established himself as one of Nigeria’s top goalkeepers following his impressive performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played a key role in the Super Eagles’ run to the final.
His return provides Chippa United with a familiar presence between the posts ahead of the new Premier Soccer League season, while also ensuring the Nigerian international remains in regular club football as he continues to compete for the Super Eagles’ number-one shirt.
