The first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals delivered high drama, individual brilliance, and tactical masterclasses and the Team of the Week reflects just that.

From Declan Rice’s set-piece heroics to Yamal’s magic in Barcelona, this XI celebrates the standout performers who rose to the occasion under the brightest lights.

Yann Sommer (Inter Milan)

The veteran goalkeeper stood tall against Bayern Munich, making six crucial saves. But it was his composure in possession that truly impressed, particularly his pinpoint throw that launched the move leading to Inter’s dramatic late winner. A calm commander between the sticks.

The Dutch full-back delivered a clutch performance in Arsenal’s famous win over Real Madrid.

Timber recorded two interceptions, won both of his aerial duels, and tallied seven ball recoveries, exemplifying resilience and tactical discipline on the right flank.

William Saliba (Arsenal)

A rock in the Gunners’ backline, Saliba led by example in a shutout against the defending champions. His contribution included four clearances and two interceptions, anchoring a defense that was impenetrable all night.

Alessandro Bastoni (Inter Milan)

Bastoni produced a complete performance in Munich, balancing defensive steel with attacking initiative.

He completed nine deep progressions and was praised by UEFA’s observer for his composure in possession and defensive timing. A true Player of the Match display.

Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain)

Mendes capped a dominant outing with a late third goal that may prove decisive for PSG.

His relentless energy was clear in his 14 ball recoveries, nine of which came in Aston Villa’s half, reflecting the high pressing approach of the French giants.

Nicolò Barella (Inter Milan)

The Inter captain was instrumental in his side’s winner, orchestrating play with equal parts tenacity and creativity. His stats tell the story: 11 line-breaking passes and 11 ball recoveries – a true box-to-box engine.

Vitinha (Paris Saint-Germain)

Vitinha was the metronome in midfield, completing an astonishing 151 open-play passes at a 97% accuracy rate. He also made 11 ball recoveries, with eight coming in the attacking half, underlining his two-way influence.

Declan Rice (Arsenal)

Rice turned in a sensational performance, scoring two stunning free-kicks and linking expertly with Gabriel Martinelli on the left.

His tireless running and physical dominance helped Arsenal overwhelm Madrid in the second half, earning plaudits from UEFA’s technical team.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Paris Saint-Germain)

The Georgian winger lit up the pitch with his flair, tallying five key passes, four successful dribbles, and a spectacular goal.

As noted by UEFA, his strike was a moment of individual brilliance, showcasing composure and creativity at the highest level.

Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona)

The Polish striker showed why he remains one of Europe’s deadliest finishers, scoring twice against Dortmund.

His link-up play with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal was exceptional, and his pressing and movement earned him the Player of the Match award.

Lamine Yamal (Barcelona)

Just 17 but playing with the poise of a seasoned professional, Yamal was electric throughout.

He scored a sublime fourth goal for Barça and wowed observers with his vision, dribbling, and mature decision-making in the final third.
