Eric Chelle has provided an update on striker Victor Osimhen, who sustained an injury during the team’s narrow 1-0 victory over Amavubi of Rwanda on Saturday.
The 26-year-old was forced off in the first half and was replaced by Cyriel Dessers as Tolu Arokodare scored the winning goal.

Speaking to reporters after the match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Chelle confirmed that the Galatasaray striker’s status for the upcoming clash against South Africa remains uncertain.
Osimhen is set to be assessed by the medical team to determine the extent of his injury.
“I can’t say much about Victor for now. He has pain in his ankle, we will see when he wake up tomorrow. I have to also discuss with the team doctors to see whether he will be available for the game.”
With the entire nation hoping for a quick recovery, Osimhen’s fitness will be a key factor heading into the crucial qualifier.
South Africa remain top of the group on 16 points, while Benin sit on 11 points, one point clear of the Super Eagles.
