Staff and players of Nigeria’s senior men’s football team, the Super Eagles have started to arrive in Polokwane in preparation for the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle and his backroom staff arrived in Polokwane on Monday morning ahead of the cruicial qualifier.
The Super Eagles will camp at the Ranch Hotel for the next few days before taking on the Crocodiles on Friday.
Invited players including Victor Osimhen, reigning African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, captain Williams Troost-Ekong and the rest of the team are expected to arrive camp from today.
Lesotho will host Nigeria at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday and will look to capitalize on FIFA’s ruling over South Africa’s use of an ineligible player in the qualification series.
FIFA disciplinary committee docked South Africa 3 points and 3 goals and awarded them to Lesotho at the end of September.
Meanwhile, FIFA’s decision on South Africa, gives the Super Eagles a chance, albeit slim to snatch a World Cup ticket after a poor start to the qualification series.
A win for Nigeria against Lesotho and group leaders Benin Republic in the last two matches and a slip up from South Africa could see the three-time African champions miraculously qualify for the World Cup next summer.
