Nigerian table tennis star Aruna Quadri set an African record as the first player from the continent to get to the quarter finals of the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships which is being held in Houston Texas in the United States.

He later lost to Moregard the 19 year old Swedish player but also moved up in rankings. Prior to the ITTF Championship, he was ranked world number 17. However, after his fine displays in the competition he climbed 4 steps upwards being the first African tennis player to achieve such feat.

Aruna continues to stand out and set the pace for other African table tennis players to follow suit. He was the first African to get to the quarter final stage of the Olympics. He is also currently number 1 ranked African player.

The Oyo state born Nigerian currently plays for TTC RhönSprudel Maberzell Fulda, a top club in the German Bundesliga Table Tennis. Aruna would be hoping to carry such momentum into World Table Tennis (WTTF) Cup Finals in Singapore by 4-7 December for Top 20 players which his performance has earned him a rightful place.
