Bayer Leverkusen defeated Augsburg 2-0 to go within four points of leaders Bayern Munich at the top of the table.
The hosts dominated possession and duly opened the scoring Granit Xhaka played the ball behind for Jeremie Frimpong to tee up Martin Terrier for a clinical first-time finish.
Florian Wirtz then fired over and Nathan Tella saw his attempt blocked as the visitors continued to look menacing in attack.
Xabi Alonso’s men doubled their lead as Wirtz collected Tella’s pass and worked enough space to pick out the bottom corner with a pinpoint strike.
Tella’s assist was the icing on the cake for the Nigerian forward who has been in good form in recent weeks.
The win marked Leverkusen’s seventh consecutive victory across all competitions, taking them four points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
The loss ended Augsburg’s five-game unbeaten streak at home.
