Top 5 Super Falcons players in 2024

The Super Falcons had quite an underwhelming 2024 following their performance at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.

The nine-time African champions lost all three matches in the group stage as they crashed out without a point.

Despite the disappointment, a couple of Super players were impressive for their club sides as the national team.

Chiamaka Nnadozie, Rasheedat Ajibade, Christy Ucheibe, Deborah Abiodun, Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie among others had impressive individual performances in the year under review.

1. Chiamaka Nnadozie

She was by a mile the best Super Falcons player in 2024. Nnadozie was the most consistent for club and country of all the players.

Nnadozie made made it to the final shortlist of the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year but missed out as Zambia’s Barbra Banda won the prize.

However, Nnadozie retained her award as the best women’s goalkeeper of the year at the 2024 CAF Awards.

Chiamaka Nnadozie made seven penalty saves for Paris FC and the Super Falcons between June 2023 and April 2024.

Nnadozie also became the first African to win best goalkeeper award in France.

2. Rasheedat Ajibade

The captain of the Super Falcons had a quite an impressive individual season for Atletico Madrid women and the Super Falcons.

Rasheedat Ajibade was instrumental for the Super Falcons en route to their qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Ajibade scored 4 goals in three matches as the Super Falcons clinched one of the two tickets for Africa.

The wide forward scored 16 goals, provided six assists on 30 matches for Atletico Madrid women’s team in the 2023/2024 season.

She also been impressive this season with five goals and two assists in nine matches gor Atletico Madrid women.

3. Deborah Abiodun

She is one of the most recent revelations in the Super Falcons. The midfield stalwart did quaite well en route to the Summer Olympics and at the tournament as well.

Deborah Abiodun plays for the University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team and remains a integral part of the team coached by former Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum.

Deborah Abiodun scored four goals in four games for the Panthers in ACC play.

4. Asisat Oshoala

The record five-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year had quite a decent 2024.

Super Falcons poor performance at the Summer Olympics appeared to have rubbed off the performances of some of the players but Oshoala still had a good year.

Oshoala moved to Bay FC after six years at Barcelona and has been impressive for the American club.

The 30-year-old striker scored 8 goals in 26 matches.

Oshoala scored in the quarter-finals of the National Women’s Soccer League as Bay FC lost to Washington Spirit.

 

5. Christy Ucheibe

Christy Ucheibe is the solid base of Super Falcons midfield and a tireless workaholic.

Ucheibe helped Benfica win the Campeonato Nacional Feminino in the 2023/2024 football season.

She also won the Taça da Liga in the same season and was voted as Eagles Tracker defender of the year for the 2023/2024 season.
