England midfielder Jordan Henderson is set to join Brentford on a two-year contract following his departure from Ajax earlier this week, after the Dutch club agreed to terminate his contract a year early.
The 35-year-old attracted significant interest from top clubs across England and Europe, but Brentford have secured the signature of the former Liverpool captain.
Returning to the Premier League with the Bees offers Henderson a chance to maintain his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
With 84 caps for England, Henderson will fill the void left by former Brentford captain Christian Norgaard, who recently moved to Arsenal. The transfer is expected to be finalized in the coming days.
Henderson’s move marks his return to the Premier League after leaving Liverpool in 2023. During his 12-year tenure at Anfield, he won a host of trophies, including the Premier League—Liverpool’s first league title in 30 years—the Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Community Shield.
After departing Liverpool, Henderson joined Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, but his stint there lasted less than six months before he signed with Ajax in January 2024.
