‘Very unprofessional’ – Odemwingie calls out NFF over statement on Super Eagles struggles

Former Super Eagles star Osaze Odemwingie has publicly condemned the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), labelling a recent statement from the body as “ridiculous” and “very unprofessional.”

The criticism from the former international comes amidst Nigeria’s disappointing 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, which leaves their place at the tournament in serious jeopardy.

Odemwingie’s remarks were a direct response to a statement from the NFF that appeared to single out individual players for blame.

The former forward argued that the federation’s leadership lacks the necessary qualifications for their roles, and is ultimately the root of the problem.

“It is a sign that the wrong people are working in our federation, it’s very unprofessional,” the former Nigerian international said, as reported by Brila.

“These are people who work in certain positions without the required qualifications. They are just like fans — you can give that job to ordinary fans, and he will probably do a job as good as that person has done.”

“It’s a shame because we look childish, and this isn’t the time to pick on any player,” he added. “The reason why we are like this is way bigger than the performance of one or two players.”

With a 2026 FIFA World Cup dream out of the question, the Super Eagles may now focus on the forthcoming AFCON 2025 competition.
