Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has become the first Bayer Leverkusen player to report for pre-season training ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, signaling his determination to hit the ground running.
Boniface arrived at the club’s training base before his teammates, prompting Bayer Leverkusen’s media team to joke:
“No time to waste. Na Victor carry first report for training.”
The 25-year-old is eager to put an injury-disrupted campaign behind him and rediscover the form that made him one of the Bundesliga’s standout forwards during Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten league-winning season.
Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes recently reaffirmed the club’s belief in the Nigerian international, insisting they are committed to helping him return to peak condition after a difficult spell with injuries.
Boniface’s early arrival also gives him valuable time to impress new head coach Carles Martínez Novell as the Spaniard begins work with the Werkself ahead of the new season. Martínez officially took charge of the club on 1 July after arriving from Toulouse on a two-year contract.
With a fresh start under a new manager and a full pre-season ahead, Boniface will be hoping his early commitment marks the beginning of a return to his explosive best in a Bayer Leverkusen shirt.
