Ghana’s Black Queens head coach, Kim Lars Björkegren, has acknowledged that their upcoming friendly against Nigeria’s Super Falcons will be their toughest test yet.
The Swedish coach, who joined the team in 2024, is gearing up for a high-stakes clash on Sunday, June 29, 2025, as both sides fine-tune for the delayed 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
For Ghana, this match is more than a warm-up—it’s a critical measure against Africa’s most successful women’s team.
After a 4-2 win over Benin, Björkegren told the Ghana Football Association’s communications team,
“Nigeria is one step up. One of the best teams in Africa with good players in almost every position.

“The game against Nigeria is going to be a very, very tough game. However, that’s also what we need now, because we have demonstrated that our lowest level is sufficiently high.
“We know that we can score goals, and we have built a good defence, so it’s going to be fun to match up against one of the best teams.”
Despite never winning the WAFCON, Ghana, runners-up in 1998 and 2002, are aiming for their first title. They now face Nigeria, the nine-time champions and gold standard in African women’s football.
