We are not planning to win! Nnadozie reveals Super Falcons’ ambition ahead of WAFCON

Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has stated that the Super Falcons’ main goal at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations isn’t to win the championship, but to earn a spot at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Morocco will host this year’s tournament between March 17 and April 3, 2026, and the tournament will serve as the qualifier for Africa’s teams heading to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The tournament’s top four finishers will qualify automatically, with two more teams advancing to inter-confederation playoffs for extra chances to qualify.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons, being defending champions, are placed in Group C for the 2026 WAFCON, facing off against Zambia, Egypt, and debutants Malawi.

Nnadozie emphasized the team’s preparation and resolve leading into the event.

“First of all, I would say the girls have been communicating. We have a group chat where we have been discussing everything,” Nnadozie said to AYSuga Channel.

“It’s just something we want to take one step at a time. We don’t want to think about the semi-finals, quarter-finals or the final. The mission is to qualify for the World Cup.

With a record 10 titles, the Super Falcons hold the top spot in WAFCON history, yet Nnadozie stressed that African women’s football no longer features straightforward matches.

“I believe in the girls. I know every team wants to beat Nigeria. We’ve been Africa’s best for a very long time. Every team wants to be there, they want to be in that number one spot, but it’s not going to be easy. Anybody who wants to be there has to work hard for it.
